These are some of my favourite songs full stop, the fact that they are collabs between K-Pop and Western artists is a HUGE plus. I hope to see more collaborations like these in the future. The more successful collaborations with western artists there are the more acceptance of K-Pop in the music industry world wide. Music transcends languages, these songs prove that.
MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)
BTS x Steve Aoki
I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. This is the epitome of a hype song. I can be in the worst mood known to man and this song will have me on my feet attempting to dance the choreo. The beat is strong and rhythmic, the vocals and rap are on point and don't get me started on the bassline. I wish I could feel the bass in my chest every time I hear MIC Drop.
The MV is I C O N I C. I can't listen to the song without picturing it scene for scene. It is bold, memorable and stylish. The choreo is powerful and leaves an impression long after you first saw it. The dance break, I'm sure everyone who has witnessed it can agree, is glorious.
Kiss and Make Up
Blackpink x Dua Lipa
This is another song I can't help but dance to. The song has so much rhythm. The English and Korean work so well together as well as Dua and the Blackpink girl's voices collectively.
This song just makes me want to dance until I physically can't.
When I first heard about this collab I was so excited. I was already a fan of both artists but shocked that out of all the artists Blackpink had the opportunity to work with that Dua was the first. As a British person I was proud.
Don't Need Your Love
NCT DREAM X HRVY
This song is a BOP. It is insanely catchy but has more of a chill vibe as opposed to a dance or hype vibe. Again the English and Korean go hand in and hand, neither language sounding out of place.
I was surprised by how well Harvey fit into the MV, he didn't stick out at all. I think much of this can be put down to the chemistry he has with the members of NCT DREAM, in the behind the scenes they seem very close.
Dream Glow
BTS x Charli XCX
This is my favourite song from the BTS World soundtrack. It is very catchy and another song more on the chill side. Although I am not a big fan of Charli XCX I was again surprised to see her collaborate with BTS.
WHO DO U LOVE? ft French Montana
MONSTA X x French Montana
This is my favourite song at the moment. While my least favourite part of the song is French Montana's rap, I feel this is down to my personal rap preferences, plus the rest of the song is so good I'm willing to overlook it.
THE. BASSLINE. OH. MY. GOD. The bassline married with the high vocals of Monsta X is perfection. I would describe this song as a groove. It is much slower than what you would expect of a dance song but you still can't help but dance along to it - again THAT BASSLINE THO!
Thank you for reading and if you are a fan of K-Pop but haven't heard these songs, please give them a listen, I assure you there is something for everyone!
Kaitlyn.
