I knew at the beginning of this month that I was going to get some new albums to listen to, those were Blackpink, BTS and Catfish & the Bottlemen. However I was surprised by Khalid and Kevin Abstract also releasing music (My thoughts on Kevin Abstract's 'ARIZONA BABY' can be found in another blog post.) In short I am overwhelmed with good music and I am trying to appreciate every second of it.

4th of April

BLACKPINK : 'Kill This Love'

Track list:

  1. Kill This Love

  2. Don't Know What To Do

  3. Kick It

  4. Hope Not

  5. DDU-DU DDU-DU Remix

The day this album was released I rushed to the library after a seminar to wait for the music video for 'Kill This Love' to be released. I was not disappointed. The video's visuals are stunning. Some of the shots are worthy of being framed. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself.

As for the rest of the album, it is incredibly catchy. Chilled but still boasts some solid rap verses.

Honorable mention: Don't Know What To Do

This song wedged itself in my brain. It is incredibly catchy and definitely one of my favourites of the album.

5th of April

Khalid - 'Free Spirit'

Tracklist:

  1. Intro

  2. Bad Luck

  3. My Bad

  4. Better

  5. Talk

  6. Right Back

  7. Don't pretend

  8. Paradise

  9. Hundred

  10. Outta My Head (with John Mayer)

  11. Free Spirit

  12. Twenty One

  13. Bluffin'

  14. Self

  15. Alive

  16. Heaven

  17. Saturday Nights

While I had been keeping up with the singles Khalid released from this album as a fan, finding out the full album was out was a happy accident while looking through Spotify.

As soon as I found out it was out I listened to the entire album in one sitting. I was immediately blown away by the atmospheric sound of 'Intro' and knew this album was special then. I enjoyed the songs I already knew at the beginning of the album, then while listening to the new songs on the second half of the album I payed a lot more attention to the lyrics. They seemed a bit darker than his previous albums, I welcomed the change and honesty but at the same time hoped that he was okay.

Khalid has such a warm, positive vibe online and often interacts with his fans on twitter. I admire him for that.

Honorable mentions ( I couldn't pick just one): Bad Luck, Talk, Saturday Nights.

I just have to say that beginning of Bad Luck and Talk are incredible, probably some of the best starts to songs I've ever heard. I loved Saturday Nights for a while, I think it just captures the feeling of youth very well.

11th of April

BTS - 'Map of the Soul: Persona'

Tracklist:

  1. Intro: Persona

  2. Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey)

  3. Mikrokosmos

  4. Make It Right

  5. HOME

  6. Jamais Vu

  7. Dionysus

While I'm a huge fan of BTS and I have so much love and respect for them, this isn't my favourite album of theirs. The songs are all catchy and somewhat chill except Persona and Dionysus.

Honorable mentions: Boy With Luv, HOME, Dionysus

Boy With Luv is a bop that is incredibly catchy, HOME is my favourite song from the album and Dionysus has grown on me since I love the performance of it so much. I'm still in awe of everything that goes on in the background.

26th of April

Catfish & the Bottlemen - 'The Balance'

Tracklist

  1. Longshot

  2. Fluctuate

  3. 2all

  4. Conversation

  5. Sidetrack

  6. Encore

  7. Basically

  8. Intermission

  9. Mission

  10. Coincide

  11. Overlap

I'll be honest when I first heard from track 5 to 11 I was a little underwhelmed. I love Catfish and I've seen them twice in concert, I've waited 3 years to hear this album so I had built it up so much in my mind when I finally heard it, it wasn't as big as I wanted it to be.

However once I listened to it through a few times I realised I loved it just as much as I love the other albums. I can't physically sit still while listening, I have to be tapping my foot or drumming the closest surface with my hands.

This is my favourite album rn, it could just be because it's the newest edition but damn... yeah it's a good one.

Honorable mentions: Longshot, 2all, Sidetrack

'Basically' because I have "Textbook" in my head aaaalll the time

'Encore' for this lyric :

"So tell me when you're worked up Take over my whole week 'Cause I'm only here playing up So that I can come and fall at your feet"

The tune from 'Intermission' gets wedged in my head too.

Bops, bops and more bops.

Anyway my April has been such a roller coaster, I'm so glad I had such great music to get me through it.

Kaitlyn.
