Full disclosure: I wrote this blog post a long time ago and am only now just getting round to publishing it.
RENTAL

The first time I ever heard 'RENTAL' was when a YouTube creator I'm subscribed to, Nathan Zed, included the song in a end screen of one of his videos. I always end up liking whatever song he chooses to use but on this particular occasion I decided to check out the full song since I liked it so much.
What had caught my attention was Matt Champion in the pre-chorus as well as the intriguing melody and beeping reminiscent of life support machines.
"Throw me in the fire, baby, I'll survive Coming top down by the seaside Ay-yi-yi-yi-yah, Ay-yi-yi-yi-yah See the wrong side of the 45 Only you and me by the borderline (ooo) Ay-yi-yi-yi-yah, Ay-yi-yi-yi-yah"
At first I was expecting to be met with disappointment that the pre-chorus would be the only good part of the song but I was very wrong.
Here are the lyrics I have fallen in love with now that I know the song very well:
"I want a love that make me feel like I ain't breakin' ya heart I wanna know what made you stay when it was wrong from the start" - Dom Mclennon
"I would show you off for everything I own I know it's not what you're used to See they could tear me down, take everything I made I'll still be here next to you" - Matt Champion
As for the MV, first of all I was drawn in by the retro looking title, designed by HK ,as seen above, which I was happy to learn later was a reoccurring style in the titles for their other songs in their 'Saturation' album series. Secondly, a fully clothed man, in a bath tub, eating a banana and speaking spanish. If that doesn't intrigue you I don't know what does. I love the playfulness of the RENTAL MV, this video and all BROCKHAMPTON videos in general are so unlike the music videos I was used to. Following the member's around with a handheld camera gives the video a home made feel yet at the same time still feeling slick and well made. Basically I fell in love and immediately began looking at their other music videos.
BOOGIE

I think 'BOOGIE' must be the second BROCKHAMPTON song I ever heard. First of all this song is SO DAMN CATCHY. My first reaction was to think this was one of the weirdest songs I had ever heard and one of the weirdest videos I'd ever seen for that matter. However by my second listen I was officially obsessed.
Sometimes you just need a song to jump up and down to while screaming the lyrics that will pretty much always make you feel like the shit. This, everybody, is that song.
"I've been beat up all my life I've been shot down, kicked out twice Ain't no stoppin' me tonight I'ma get all the things I like" - Kevin Abstract
"Best Boyband since One Direction" - Kevin Abstract
"Ooh, who got me riled up? Who the lame ass bitch wanna talk 'bout us? Ooh, come get it from me, uh" - Matt Champion
SWEET

'SWEET' was the first song and video I played over and over and over. Learning the lyrics and lying in bed at night bobbing my head to it. The beginning of the video still makes me smile every time I see it.
The song itself it just so genius to me I'm finding it really hard to explain in words why I love it so much. Each member brings something new and unique while at the same time leading on from the previous verse so well. They match each other's flows while telling their own individual stories through clever rhymes.
I am so tempted to quote the whole song but I must say while I , like most people do get hyped for Merlyn's verse, I am actually quite partial to JOBA's verse.
"It's funny how things can change Three hundred dollars to my name, left to Hollywood I was living off Ramen and change Five hundred dollars on these dinners, never have to pay Growing up my teachers told me "You better get them grades up If you wanna finish high school And after high school, you better get a degree 'Cause it's a dog-eat-dog world You could live in the street" Flashback, I had my Walkman in the minivan Listening to NSYNC, saw my name on the CD Bleach blond tips, wanted to be JT Wanted to do big things, had to fulfill a dream One might say I was doomed from the get-go But those same people assume, 'cause they'll never know What it's like to be called to what's not set in stone I am one with the ebb and flow, that's all I know" - JOBA
Dom is also a lyrical genius in SWEET like he always is tbh, I mean, come on!
"The original lick-splickety Higher than Yosemite Breaking the mold mentally Master with no limiting Making em say ugh They worshipping our force viciously Watching the floor tip In your temple of authenticity Often they say I’m off it I offer my crossed empathy They forgot what we on I’ll remind em with hostility" - Dom Mclennon
UGH THE RHYMES
"Moses with the pen Each line an ocean I can part it at But that's too deep"
Don't get me started on Matt Champions verse at the beginning either... UGH
"Whatchu mean, it ain't working? (what?) Whatchu mean, you ain't finding yourself? (oh, I am, I'm trying) Whatchu mean, you ain't got no cash? (I got a little bit) Whatchu mean? Whatchu mean?"
And to top it all off, when the song is performed live the audience joins in with the members to chant "GO STUPID! GO STUPID! GO STUPID!" before Merlyn starts his verse by shouting
"DON'T CALL ME STUPID THAT AIN'T THE WAY MY NAME PRONOUNCED"
I don't know why but SWEET feel's like my song. Like RENTAL and BOOGIE are everyone's favourites but SWEET is my favourite. You know? I don't know if I'm making much sense to be honest haha.
GOLD

Another bop. I don't know why I'm bothering to state this since the whole point of this is to talk about my favourite Brockhampton songs - I'm obviously going to think they are all bops.
I wasn't expecting to give BTS a shout out in this post but I just had to mention my sheer excitement when someone puts a BROCKHAMPTON song over a BTS edit since I love both bands so much. It happens more often than you expect and I have now commented on the same Instagram post three times telling people that the song in the video is indeed GOLD by BROCKHAMPTON. I really hope people check them out and love them as much as I do - the world needs more BTS X BROCKHAMPTON stans , that way we have a bigger chance of a collab that would pretty much put me in a grave because I am trash.
Gold is another song I found myself listening to over and over again. There are quite a few lyrics I like in this song - I particularly like Dom's verse. I just have so much admiration for his writing and flow. This song also holds some of my favourite Matt Champion lyrics.
"Rock the boat like a one eyed pirate, Rick James I get glitter on my eyelids" - Matt Champion
"I got bipolar confidence, wake up like 'shit!', then I feel like shit, so I guess im the shit. Yeah I guess I'm the shit" - Matt Champion
"Keep a gold chain on my neck, fly as a jet, boy better treat me with respect" - Kevin Abstract
"Swan dived on the 405 Land at the bottom of Arturo High With the precision of a cut from a Zorro knife The boy spit like he made out of 409 So that's clean, bitch You can't play with my team, bitch We rock pink, no more Wednesdays Wringler's good with your envy Mix with white 'cause you salty But this stainless I'm like platinum and it's painless I just skip on the beat like I'm Pee-Wee Herman Hands off of all my sermons My wheel's turnin', now I'm more efficient than ever I feel like Ratatouille when I'm whipping that Chevy You see, you better fucking get some sweaters 'cause this ice Might fuck around and change your whole life 'Cause we about to take flight" - Dom Mclennon
STAR

STAR is another song that is popular with everyone. I have seen many a compilation video made to it with clips related to all the references in this song.
STAR sticks out in my mind as another MV that I had to take in slowly - like what am I looking at haha. I just had to mention it because at this point I feel like Dom's verse is iconic.
"I might go Interstellar I feel like Matthew McConaughey I don't care for what they gotta say Tony Perkis how I drop the weight Jason Bourne with the headshot Jason Statham with the whip game Liam Neeson with the rescue I go Gunnar with the leather face Bruce Campbell with the chains Tobin Bell with the saw Anthony Hopkins, I'm eatin' 'em raw They don't know who we are Molly Shannon I'm a superstar Ride or die like it's sea biscuit Tryna stack like Tobey John Wick, I don't leave a witness Chris Paul, I'm assistin' Ameer going Blake Griffin Give me forty-eight minutes We go '04 Pistons Catch a fade like Robert Horry Only time to get the spotlight Deray how I'm top flight Go Obama when I drop mics" - Dom Mclennon
BLEACH

I. LOVE. BLEACH. SO. MUCH. (That sounds weird out of context wow)
I checked and BLEACH is my most played BROCKHAMPTON song on my phone.
For me when I really like a song, I'm able to picture something when I close my eyes. For BLEACH its a warm summer night, in a car with the windows down, my arm is out the window waving up and down and my hair is blowing in the wind. The song gives me a feeling of being completely content.
They said "Do you make mistakes or do you make a change?" - Dom Mclennon
"I forgot my passport for sure all for a pretty sky" - Kevin Abstract
"Everything you wear, I be the one to care" - Bearface
TEAM

Bearface stans where you at?
This is another song that just makes me feel so calm and content. Lying on my bed with the window wide open, listening to this song is my happy place.
"You should move on, I swear you'll be fine" - Bearface
SUMMER

Another Bearface song with similar vibes - his vocals are truly unique and also create a whole vibe.
In the heat of the summer, you're so different from the rest.
You know that you should be my boy. - Bearface
HONORABLE MENTIONS
FACE

"They don't know how to ride the tidal waves that crash in your thighs" - Dom Mclennon
I have never heard female sexuality described so poetically/beautifully especially not in a rap song and I love it so much it might even be my favourite BROCKHAMPTON lyric ever. Writing this I came to the conclusion that I would adore it tattooed on my body in permanent ink.
ZIPPER

I fell in love with this song the moment I heard JOBA on the first verse. The lyrics are just so out there - just the way I like my lyrics.
"Pretty sure I'm maniacal, but what do I know? I don't know, all I know is what I see through my monocle
That and the telescope, keep one lens on the money flow
The other's gold and complement-al trusty, well, well" - JOBA
JUNKY

Matt Champions verse about rape culture and Kevin talking about his sexuality. Enough said.
I hate these shady folk that want a ladylike But don't treat lady right, but they be sayin' like "just the tip" And, yeah, you mad 'cause she ain't fuck, mad 'cause she ain't suck Beat your ass before you got time to say "why not?" Here to catch ya slip up, wish you could just rewind Time to not fuck up, thought you were just lucked up Where the respect? Is your ass human? I look you in your eyes, say "fuck you, are you fuckin' stupid?" Respect my mother, 'spect my sister, 'spect these women, boy I get my 9-9, I don't own one, hit the store to blow your brains off Better hope my aim off, better hope the range off Better hope my tame off before I blow your brains off, boy - Matt Champion
"Why you always rap about bein gay? cause not enough n***as rap and be gay" - Kevin Abstract
STAINS

I had to include this because the first time I heard this song I was on the train smiling like an idiot when I heard these lyrics.
Y'all motherfuckers made three albums Still talking about the same shit The one gay, the one selling drugs The one that's tryna act like Lil Wayne What the fuck is this shit man? Y'all better turn this shit off when y'all get in the whip When y'all enter my whip, y'all better not play this shit 'Cause this can go right the fuck off - Ashlan Grey
The self aware commentary just really got me.
BROCKHAMPTON have been through ALOT recently but I continue to support them and love their music.
